FAQs

How often should I come in for treatment?

If you are
in some distress, weekly appointments will be most effective for you.  Why?  Because the mind needs practice and repetition to change gears.

You may start feeling better right away, and to sustain this state may take regular practice . . . like learning to play a musical instrument.

How long do people attend therapy?

Most people find that 10 sessions can help them make important changes, when they are coming in for a tune up.

If you are working on a major overhaul of your life, or a long standing pattern, 6 months by help you make lasting change.

Every person is different.  Our work together is designed specifically for you.  No cook book methods in our work together.

What if it's really urgent?

I can usually see you within 24 hours if it is urgent.  If you are having severe panic, anxiety or depression, please go to the nearest emergency room.

Portland also has excellent crisis telephone lines, staffed by caring people:

Metro Crisis Line
503-988-4888

Women's Crisis Line

We make it easy to use your health insurance.  You simply pay your deductible or copay and we do all the rest.

Health Insurance - How It Works

If you have health insurance, we will be happy to check the details of your benefits before your first visit.  You will know what your deductible and co-payment amount in advance   As health insurance companies remind you, coverage quoted is not a guarantee of payment.  You are ultimately responsible for all fees, if your insurance does not pay.  We've found however that there is seldom a problem.

Oregon Health Plan - OHP Medicaid FamilyCare

We are contracted with the Oregon Health Plan OHP.  All of our therapists are in the FamilyCare network.  You can select FamilyCare.  Or if you are part of another CCO like HealthShare or CareOregon, you can switch to FamilyCare. Just call them to get help at 503-222-2880.  The great news is that your psychotherapy with us is 100% covered once we get and authorization for your treatment.  In other words, you have no copay and no deductible.  We do not take Health Share at this time.

We are In Network with:

  • FamilyCare OHP
  • Kaiser when referred by your doctor
  • BlueCross
  • Pacific Source
  • Medicare for Gael Nance LCSW

We work well with  most major health insurance providers  including Kaiser, Providence, ODS, Pacific Behavioral Health, Moda, Pacific Source, Cigna, Great West, Oregon Health Coop, MHN, Aetna, OHP Family Care and many others.

We do NOT take:

  • Health Share
  • PBH or UBH

How to Pay

You can pay with cash, checks or credit card.

The cost of  counseling is an investment in your well being.  We are committed to doing what ever we possibly can to make it work well for you.
