"I wanted to find someone to work with who is not so STUCK on the 12-step thing. I went to some meetings, but did not find them that helpful. But, I know I need to stop drinking. I do not want to go to some counselor who will just tell me the same stuff my parents do about how I am such a ‘screw-up.’" KC, Tigard
"I did not want to waste my time and energy with a therapist who told me the same stuff all the other ones I have been to have. I mean, I know what I NEED to do. Why is it that I do it for awhile, then I don’t? I needed someone with a deeper approach, a different one. Janet was that person"
"I learned how to communicate better with my wife and not be so passive with her so that later I ‘blew up’. Now, I am more honest with her so that I don’t hold so much resentment inside." Martin, Tigard
"I have been to ‘talk’ therapy before, and it helped a little. But, I wanted to go deeper. Janet has helped me with my relationship with my body and to take better care of myself. I also connected with my creativity more and have had a lot of fun using this to help clarify my issues and to learn what my next steps need to be. I have always been an environmentalist, but I had lost my connection to nature and Janet helped me to get it back."

You may find that my heartfelt and creative approach to these common challenges helps you make changes that are important to you. You'll find a place where my genuine unconditional positive regard for you helps you remember what's important to you.
Would you like a therapist who has a sense of humor? Who will give you direct feedback, not just listen passively? Be real with you? I recognize that we all struggle from time to time, and need some support and guidance. Together we can work with your challenges with respect, understanding and even have some fun.
If you are concerned that you might be drinking too much, or using drugs or prescriptions you may be surprised at my type of help. You will never feel "talked down to." Clients have told me that they appreciate that they never feel judged by me.
I specialize in addiction, and Moderation Management. I particularly enjoy helping clients determine how to drink moderately and my special training will help you know if you are one of these people who can drink safely and how to do it successfully.
Many clients who have challenges with alcohol or drugs, have undiagnosed PTSD. If you find you are coping with anxiety or depression in unhelpful ways such as increase use of alcohol or drugs, finding yourself isolating, or notice more conflict with loved ones, you may benefit from specialized help for the underlying causes.
We work together to give you strategies to discharge the increased adrenaline response that the body develops in response to trauma. You'll learn how to calm the body and mind for increased quality of life.
Clients wonder how long therapy takes. Most people come for at least 10 sessions. I have worked with one client for as long as 2 years. But most commonly clients work with me for 3 - 6 months.
They find answers to the questions: “What can I do differently? I don’t like the way my life is now.” “How can I create my goals? I keep falling short.” “How can I make this transition?"
I'd love to chat with you about the kind of support you want. I offer a free phone consultation so we can get to know each other.
