Angelica Amaya
LCSW, LICSW

My name is Angelica Amaya, and I am licensed in both Oregon and Washington. I began my career of 28 years working with children, families, adults with developmental disabilities and in community mental health. In recent years, I worked as a medical social worker in home health supporting patients coping with their illnesses and providing bereavement support to patients and their families in hospice and palliative care. I have also provided grief support to those who are mourning a loss of a pet.

In my current role as a psychotherapist, I help clients with anxiety, depression, and going through life transitions. I also have extensive knowledge of narcissist personality disorder and have helped those who have had past trauma with someone in their life who was a narcissist.

In my free time, I enjoy travelling, hiking, eating at local restaurants, attending festivals, and going on road trips with my dogs.

Therapeutic Approach

My approach is compassionate, supportive, client-centred, and strength-based. I hope to provide you with tools and identify goals to help you through your wellness and healing. I will collaborate with you to change old destructive patterns in hopes of making you feel more grounded and work toward greater self-acceptance. I can offer short-term solution-based therapy or more depth-oriented approaches depending on what you feel your needs are.

I provide individual therapy to those who may be experiencing:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Grief and loss
  • Life transitions
  • Self-esteem issues
  • Relationship issues
  • Coping with illnesses
  • Workplace stress
  • Codependency

Education:

University of New Mexico (Albuquerque): Bachelor of Science Family Studies 1997

San Jose State University in CA: Master’s in Social Work, 2005
